DIY Reversible Jumbo Tote Bag Made with 10″ Precuts
I have been trying to be better about taking my own bags to the market and I decided to start making myself some more bags. This DIY reversible jumbo tote bag is about as easy as it gets in bag making. It uses 10″ precuts and a couple of pieces of lightweight fusible interfacing (optional). I made two different versions, one for my tutorial and one for the video. Which one is your favorite?
In the video the fabrics used were Gradations – Crystal by Linda Ludovico for Northcott. It’s a beautiful pack of pastel blues, turquoises, pinks and purples. For the blog post and downloadable pattern I used Beggar’s Night by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake which is filled with whimsical designs that are perfect for halloween!
What I love about them is that they have completely different looks thanks to the precuts I received as a Missouri Star Quilt Company (MSQC) partner.

Make the Body of the Bag
Pick out 16 of your favorite 10″ precuts and make 4 four-patches with them.
Following the manufacturer’s instructions, adhere the squares of fusible interfacing to the back (wrong) side of two of the four-patches.
Make the Handles
Cut 6 strips (3 from two 10″ precuts) 3 1/4″ wide x 10″. Piece them together in one long strip. Then fold and press in half, right sides facing. Open up and fold and press each long side to the center line.
Fold again and press.
Lastly, using a 1/8″ seam allowance, sew along each long edge. cut handle strip in half to form two handles.
Pin the handles to the the two sections that you added the interfacing to. Determine the top of the bag and make a 3 1/2″ mark on the left and right sides of the top of the bag. Pin the handle to the inside of that mark. To secure the handles sew them on using an 1/8″ seam allowance.
Assemble the Bag
Line up the sections with the handles right sides facing and, using a 1/2″ seam allowance, sew along the right, left and bottom of the bag. Clip the bottom corners, being careful not to snip the stitches. turn the bag right sides out and set aside.
Do the same steps with the inside of the bag EXCEPT for the following: 1) leave an opening at the bottom about 6″ – 7″ wide, making sure to back stitch on both sides and 2) do not turn the section right sides out.
Insert the outer section of the bag into the inside section, lining everything up and pinning. IMPORTANT: Make sure the handles are pushed inside the bag between the two sections. Sew around the top edge.
Using the hole in the bottom, turn the bag right sides out.
Fold in the hole, press and use a scant 1/8″ seam allowance to sew it shut.
Insert the inside of the bag. Line up the top of the bag and give it a good press. Use a 1/8″ seam allowance and sew around the top edge of the bag to finish.
