Quilt Block Patterns Quilting

Reimagining the Corn and Beans Quilt Block

I’m joining a number of other quilters and designers in a fun challenge. We are remixing various quilt blocks. This month I am reimagining the Corn and Beans quilt block. This is a trickier block to assemble so I have decided to make it easier and switch it up a little bit. Each week I will be showing you a bit more of the remix until it is all done.

By the end of the month I’ll have a full tutorial on how to make my version so you will want to check back or follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook to stay up-to-date.

Reimagining the Corn and Beans Quilt Block Week 1 – Fabric Pull

I decided to choose fabrics from my second signature fabric line with Island Batik. Hitting store shelves in September, 2024, this line is full of rich blues, browns and golds. I chose the four shown below to make my new quilt block.

Week 2 – Sneak Peek #1

This week I’m giving you a sneak peek at the beginnings of the block. I love a half square triangle andI’m using plenty in my version of the Corn & Beans quilt block.

Week 3 – Sneak Peek #2

This week was all about Flying Geese and the 4-at-a-time method. It’s the only way I like to make mine. Here they are waiting to be trimmed down to size.

Week 4 – The Reveal

Reveal time is here! I did not do a huge readjustment of the block. I added some squares and made the center section easier to assemble. A traditional Corn and Beans is on the left and my reimagined block I call “Corny” is on the right. It has a bit more square appearance to it.

Then I decided to play around with my EQ8 software to see how my block looks in a quilt.

I also did a block tutorial on YouTube channel so if you want to learn how to make my Corny block you can find out here.

The Challenge

It is always fun for me to join a challenge like this one. It makes me expand my thinking when it comes to quilt pattern design.

You’ll want to see what the other participating designers are doing too. They are:
