Easy Tulip Flower Quilt Block Tutorial
Are you looking for a super easy scrap busting quilt block? Here it is. This easy tulip quilt block is so fun to make and perfect for helping to empty out your scrap fabric bins. Quick backstory about this block. I was filming a video for a disappearing Weathervane quilt block. After two hours of filming I was ready to assemble the new block I was making and bam….I realized that what I had done was not going to work at all with the measurements. However, I fell in love with the smaller sections that had been created when I had cut the block up.
This 6 1/2″ unfinished flower block is going to be my next scrap quilt. I find it charming and, because this easy tulip quilt block comes together so quickly, I can make a lot of them at once.

- 1 yellow square cut 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″

Make the Half Square Triangles Using the 2-at-a-time Method

Draw a diagonal line on the back of the yellow square. Line up a yellow and a pink fabric with right sides facing. Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew along both sides of the drawn line.

Cut the section in half on the drawn line and press to the darker fabric. Starting on one corner, trim the half square triangle to 2 1/2″ square. Use the square quilter’s ruler to help with this process.

Rotate the block and trim the other side to get that exact 2 1/2″ half square triangle. Repeat with the yellow and green 3 1/4″ squares.

Lay out the pieces as shown. Sew together the individual rows and then sew the block together. That is all there is to this easy tulip quilt block.
